Dorking Museum has just received the sad news that long term Local History Group member Nora Simpson died on Monday 14th February at the age of 96.

Mary Turner has passed on the following details:

Although Nora was a Local History Group member for a while - she was not a current member - her main interest was in Dorking & District Museum, where she was a steward from the start and was a committee member in the 1980s.

Although she was forced to give up her regular slot on the stewards' rota a few years back, she could be called on as a reserve until well into her 90s.

She was Dorking born & bred and her memory was clear to the end - she loved helping visitors learn more about the town.  Her family ran a florist shop in the High Street and she kept in on until she retired,

On her mothers side she was related to the well known local Ivery family, who had a nursery garden.

She was connected with the Girl Guide Movement all her life and was a Brownie Leader for many years.  She also ran a Dance & Drama Group until well in her 80s.

She is to be buried in Dorking Cemetery on Friday 4th March at 1.30pm to be followed by a service of Thanksgiving at St Martins Church at 2.30pm.
