Last year Dorking Museum held an appeal for items that could be sold both at a jumble sale and on the EBAY shop that has been set up.

An unknown donor handed in 19 beautiful London Transport images all by noted artists of the '20's to the 50's.

We mailed the London Transport Museum to try and get some more information on the pictures. They sent back the following report...

"The cards were produced for several years in the 1950's after the success of a big exhibition of original posters at the V & A in 1949 that then toured around the country."

As far as they were aware the cards were sold at the time as souvenirs of the exhibition presumably at venues hosting the exhibition and also at London Transport outlets such as the shop at 55 Broadway (London Transport's Head Office).

We put the cards up for sale on Ebay and were amazed at the response they got.

The total raised from this anonymous gift was over £190.00.

We were especially pleased to see that the image of Richmond Park was bought by The Hearsum Collection - a private collection in Pembroke Lodge, Richmond Park The purpose of their collection is to collect, preserve and display items relating to the rich history of the Park.

It is very satisfying to know that some of these images have found their way to where they should belong.
