Let There Be Light

We had a query a few weeks ago...

"Are you or anyone in your history group please able to tell me the origin of the beautiful red brick 'Let there be Light' on the gable of Boots the chemist on Dorking High Street? My sister-in-law lives in North Holmwood and we have been puzzled by this for a while, so any information would be very gratefully received."

Boots

We received this answer...

"Having spent 18 years of my life sleeping below said "Let There Be Light"; we were told by our parents (my father was the Manager at the time) that it was the Motto of William Caxton (printer) and that the building had once  housed a printing works.
